How do I transfer a dog into my name?
To allow transfer of ownership we require the original pedigree to sent in to our office together with the required payment.
The back of the pedigree contains the transfer form and must be completed with the details and signatures of the owner(s) shown on the front of the Pedigree Certificate and the details and signature of the new owner(s).
Once transfer of ownership is done, the pedigree certificate will be re-issued with the new owner's details and sent directly to them.
The cost of the transfer will depend on which register the dog is on, and the membership status of the new owner. Please contact our office if you require assistance.
How do I transfer my dog between the Main & Limited registers?
Upgrading a dog from Limited to Main Register
To transfer a dog from the Limited to Main register, we need written authorisation from the breeder of the dog.
This can be written on the front of the pedigree, otherwise if it is to come as a separate letter attached to the pedigree, that letter must include the dog's registered name and/or number and be signed by the breeder.
If the dog is being transferred at the same time, it must be going to a financial member of Dogs Victoria or one of the other state bodies.
Downgrading a dog from the Main register to the Limited Register
Anyone (breeder or owner) can transfer a dog from the main to limited register as long as it is written on the front of the pedigree together with the correct signature authorising this.
Please note, this request must be lodged with the state controlling body where the dog was originally registered.
Please refer to the scale of charges for the current fees for changing register.
How do I transfer my dog to the Neuter register?

Once the transfer to the Neuter register is completed, the dog's pedigree certificate will be re-issued with the dog shown as either neutered (male) or spayed (female).
