Aspiring Judges Training Program 2024
The required six (6) stewarding appointments must be completed in the two years prior to enrolling.

Dogs Australia Regulation 4.1.1.6

(a) Where a Member Body requires formal training to become a Steward, a Member must successfully complete that training in the two (2) years prior to applying to become an Aspiring Judge.

(b) In any State where no formal training is required, in the two years prior to enrolling, an Aspiring Judge must officiate as a ring steward on no less than six (6) occasions of which three (3) must be full groups.

CRITIQUES 2024

Candidates must complete 15 intensive critiques over two years OR seven intensive critiques for a resit practical exam.

Please note: NO OTHER TYPES OF CRITIQUES WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR THE 2024 PROGRAM ONWARDS

These critiques can be completed throughout Australia but MUST be on the Dogs Victoria Intensive Critique form.

Only a Dogs Australia Accredited Assessor (AA) can sign off on an intensive critique.
PLEASE NOTE: accredited assessors who are NOT in the judges training scheme can sign off on critiques.

  • 15 single breed intensive critiques are required to sit a practical exam.
  • All must be a different breed,
  • Only one per variety, e.g. one Poodle, one Chihuahua (Long or Smooth Coat) etc.
  • Including one specialty critique

However, you can do as many critiques as you wish and submit your best 15 single breed Intensive Critiques with your practical exam application.

These Intensive Critiques serve as mini practical exams. The more you complete, the better prepared you will be for your real practical exam.

Dogs Australia Regulation 6.1.2 Module 2. Practical Experience

50 dogs must be judged. These dogs must be judged with only one (1) trainee judge in the ring and the exhibits must be physical placed, discussed and signed off by an accredited assessor ONLY.

There will be a written record kept by the Trainee Judge with the Date, Fixture and number of dogs judged. The Trainee Judge’s Judging Record Card must be signed by the accredited assessor after a discussion on the placings with the number of dogs recorded. (Not by a Show Official)

Approval to conduct a judging class must be obtained from the Affiliate conducting the Show.
