Earthworks at KCC Park

Wednesday, 30 October 2019

A reminder to our members that earthworks are now underway at the rear of KCC Park near the Dam. These works may continue until the end of the year.

As the ground is displaced, snakes that may be in hibernation could be disturbed.  We urge members to be cautious around this area at all times.

If you see a snake, don't panic. Back away to a safe distance and allow the snake to move away. Snakes often want to escape when disturbed.  Signage has been erected as a reminder.

Keep safe, watch where you are putting your feet, avoid tall grasses and most importantly keep your dog on a leash to avoid them sticking their snouts where they don't belong.

If you suspect your dog has been bitten by a snake you should immobilise them and try to keep him/her as quiet as possible. It is vital that you take your pet to a veterinarian as quickly as possible. The sooner your dog is treated, the better their chances of survival.

The vet nearest clinic to KCC Park is Thompson Road Small Animal Clinic, 940 Thompson Road, Cranbourne - 1300 843 838 – located just behind the BP station.  Further information can be found on our website on the Emergency Information page here

A message from your Chief Executive, Matthew Monaghan

Thursday, 24 October 2019

Dear Members

I am very excited to have joined Dogs Victoria at this time.

As your new Chief Executive, I look forward to playing an active role in working with everyone and I feel there is a lot we can achieve together.

Having worked in membership organisations over the past 15 years, I recognise the importance of members as the backbone to any successful, sustainable and active association. I have also worked in government and see the need for advocating and representing the interests of our members and our sport. I look forward to working with our Dogs Victoria community to achieve this.

As a dog lover myself I recognise the significant role they play in people’s lives.
Dogs Victoria has a strong foundation.  Let’s work as one team and build on this together.

Matthew Monaghan
Chief Executive

Responsible Pet Ownership starts with Registration

Wednesday, 23 October 2019

Being a responsible dog owner means a lot more than just giving your dog what it needs.

If you buy a dog from a breeder you can avoid any ownership issues in the future by following these simple steps.

  • Get your sales agreement in writing. It is always useful to spell out the understanding on each side to safeguard any disagreements that may arise in the future, irrespective of the current relationship between you and the other party.
  • Change of animal ownership. Transfer your pet registration into your name with Dogs Victoria  and your local council.
  • Update registry records. Ensure the microchip number is registered with your contact details via Central Animal Records  If your dog escapes the registered contact connected to the microchip will be called.

By following these few simple guidelines you will be keeping yourself and your four legged friend safe well into the future.

Member Update

Friday, 11 October 2019

I have some exciting news regarding the appointment of a new Chief Executive.

As mentioned previously Management Committee decided to do a total review of the position and at the same time work with an external consultant to review the whole structure of the office.

I can now announce that Management Committee has appointed Matthew Monaghan to the Chief Executive position. Matthew will commence on Monday 21 October.

Matthew brings to the position a wealth of qualifications and experience managing membership based organisations, excellent commercial acumen and strong leadership skills.

Matthew is keen to meet members and will be attending events on weekends where possible. The Sunbury Canine Club has kindly invited Matthew to their show on Cup Day, where I will endeavour to introduce him to as many members as possible.

President
