How to Become a Scent Work Judge

The following information is designed to help you understand the requirements and assist trainee judges in sourcing the information needed.

Dogs Australia Regulations – Judges Training

The Judges Training Program is conducted under Dogs Australia Regulations and is a national scheme. Please click here to download the national Judges Code of Practice and Conduct. 

 

Information for Prospective Trainees

Some of the requirements include:

  • Five year continuous membership of an ANKC member body
  • Current financial member of Dogs Victoria
  • Be over eighteen years of age
  • Reside in Victoria
  • Have trained, competed with and titled a dog to scent work advanced eligibility level
  • Have experience in related club or training activities, whether in scent work or another Dogs Australia discipline
  • Been approved by Dogs Victoria

Method of Education (Self Education)

Trainees will be required to:

  • Educate themselves by being conversant with the Dogs Victoria Rules and Regulations relevant to scent work trials
  • Attend 80% of lectures and practical training sessions
  • Undertake practice judging at the relevant level under the supervision of an approved mentor
  • Undertake stewarding or time keeping responsibilities at a minimum of three sanctioned scent work trials
  • Study the Rules for the Conduct of Scent Work Trials
  • Undergo testing

Written Examinations and Practical Assessments

Examination papers shall comprise of short answer questions and/or multi-choice questions. The minimum pass mark is 80% for both sections of the examination.
