Background The Sloughi was developed as the noble hunting companion of the Bedouin. The Sloughi slept in the tent of his master, received the best of food and was greatly valued because it provided through hunting for the family. They were mourned upon their death.
Average Lifespan The Sloughi can live up to 10-15 years of age.
Breed Personality/Characteristics/Temperament The Sloughi is very affectionate and loyal to his family but is reserved towards strangers. He is like the Bedouin: wild and gentle, noble and ferocious and extremely sensitive. He is faithful and makes a very good watchdog. They can be well trained if disciplined fairly, consistently and gently, as they are sensitive to anger.
Compatibility with other pets Sloughi get along well with other animals such as other dogs and cats provided they are properly introduced to their new companion.
Care Requirements Sloughi, particularly young dogs, need a daily run. Once they have had their exercise, a Sloughi will be perfectly happy to relax on the most comfortable spot in the house and watch the household from a distance. Regular exercise and being an integrated part of the family are prerequisites for a well-adjusted Sloughi. Grooming on a Sloughi is minimal with the occasional bath all that is necessary to keep the dog clean.
Ideal Owner/s Single people or families - care should be taken with very young children. This is a gentle breed.
